Housing Needs: Do you have a room to rent? Do you know someone in need?

South San Francisco, CA October 16, 2013

With the cost of housing at an all time high many local folks are priced out of the market. On the other side of the issue is the fact many of our neighbors have a room they may want to rent out. With today’s economy folks that use to depend on interest from savings accounts or dividends, or even pensions for their income, have found their budgets short at the end of the month.  San Mateo County offers a program called HIP HOUSING and their purpose is hook up renters with rentees.  About their programs:

Their  Home Sharing program, one of the largest in the nation, facilitates a living arrangement in which two or more unrelated people share a home or apartment.

Self-Sufficiency provides housing help and supportive services to low- income families transitioning to self-reliance.

Through Property Development, HIP Housing acquires and rehabilitates existing housing to expand the pool of affordable housing for low-income persons and families in San Mateo County.

Each month the HIP HOUSING website produces a new list of folks in need of a place to call home and another list of folks that have a room to rent. It’s a good resource to keep in mind and to share with others. Below are the October lists from their website.

Don’t forget to check http://www.smchousingsearch.org as well. Many of HIP Housing’s listings are there too.
