Road Maintenance Workers I perform a variety of heavy manual labor tasks associated with the routine and emergency maintenance of 316 miles of roadway in the unincorporated areas of San Mateo County, including: digging and clearing ditches; trimming and removing vegetation along the roadways, patching streets, repairing potholes; cleaning catch basins; trimming trees; and
repairing winter damage from slides and slipouts.
The ideal candidate will have experience performing road/sewer maintenance and repair duties requiring strength, agility and endurance. The ideal candidate also has worked in a Public Works Agency. Experience in tree climbing and certification as a tree climber is desirable.
Employees work 10-hour shifts, 4 days per week, either Monday through Thursday or Tuesday through Friday, and must be willing to work overtime. New employees may be assigned to work out of the Grant Corporation Yard in Redwood City or one of the three Coastside yards (Princeton, Pescadero or La Honda). There is currently four vacancies in the Public Works Department.
