New Mayor and Vice Mayor Sworn in at South San Francisco City Council Reorganization Event

At last night’s South San Francisco’s City Council Reorganization Event, councilmembers nominated and voted Pradeep Gupta as Mayor and Liza Normandy as Vice Mayor.

“It is my honor to step up and continue the work that former Mayor Mark Addiego has started,” said Gupta. “We have a great group of people on our Council, many who have served the City for years. I’m eager to lead this Council and our City during such exciting times.”

Pradeep Gupta was appointed to the South San Francisco City Council for a one-year term on December 31, 2012. He was subsequently elected in November 2013 for a full four-year term. Prior to his appointment to the City Council, he was on the South San Francisco Planning Commission for three years, serving as the Commission’s Chair in 2011.

He has a Master’s degree and a Doctorate from Purdue University in Electrical Engineering, specializing in the area of energy efficiency and long term planning of electric utility systems.

His professional career spans over thirty years of working with electric utility industries both in the US and abroad. Councilmember Gupta serves on the following subcommittees of the Council: Environment, Finance and Budget Subcommittee, Community Coalition for Safe Neighborhoods, and South San Francisco Unified School District Liaison. His regional assignments include, Association of Bay Area Governments Board, City County Association of Government Board, Bay Area Regional Collaborative, Regional Planning Committee Chair, Peninsula Clean Energy Board, Resource Management and Climate Protection Committee, San Mateo County Community Action Agency and Emergency Services Council.
Liza Normandy was elected to the City Council in November 2013. She previously served on the South San Francisco Unified School District Board of Trustees, serving as Board President from 2008 to 2010. She was the first Asian-American elected to the School Board, is the second Asian-American elected to the City Council, and only the third woman to serve on the South San Francisco City Council.

Normandy is involved in a variety of local and regional community organizations including the South San Francisco Asian Alliance, South San Francisco Police Athletic League, Historical Society, Organization of Chinese Americans – San Mateo Chapter, League of Women Voters of North & Central San Mateo County, and the Italian American Citizens Club. As a Councilmember, Normandy has also served on the following committees: Community Development Block Grant, Downtown Subcommittee, Financial/Budget committee, and the Harbor District/City Liaison Committee. Beyond South San Francisco, Normandy is also very involved regionally, serving time on the Airport Land Use Committee (ALUC), the Housing Our People Effectively (HOPE) Leadership Committee, the Housing Endowment and Regional Trust (HEART) of San Mateo County and Vice Chair for the San Mateo County Council of Cities.
