NSA and phone records, neighbors weigh in

South San Francisco, CA June 7, 2013

Are you satisfied with President Obama’s statement “Nobody is listening to your telephone calls”? Neighbors weighed in our facebook page. What are your thoughts?

Jeff Downs If you have nothing to hide, what is the problem?

John Kevranian Whistle Blowers who report Illegal government activities would be afraid to report to the media. This is a way of intimidation and a gag rule enforcement.

Michael Gina Silva I usually just hope the person I’m talking to is… Anything beyond that is a bonus.

Robert Gatewood Hell no. He has lied about so many things. Wouldn’t trust him to water a plant.

Ray Bartolo If you believe anything he says, then you must believe in the Easter bunny.

Bob Petrini Who still uses a telephone?

Mary An Stanley I could truly care less WHO listens to me !! I’m sick of hearing how wrong it is !!!! Seriously if you’re selling dope over the phone you’re going to get caught …. Great! If you’re building a bomb and receiving the ingredients over the phone , you’re going to get caught.. Double great! If you’re listening to me talk .. Blah blah blah… I feel bad for you. But if you’re going to keep ME just a little bit safer in this VERY violent world … Listen all you want!

Marie BlackOwl Yes I am ok w/that if your not do anything wrong who cares

Jackie Moreno Not true!

Chris Coghlan I am disgusted by it..we are the Soviet Union we were brought up to fear. I took an oath to protect the constitution of the United States. I believe my role in doing that these days is to speak against the government when they are wrong. You folks who are ok with this are inviting a police state. Where is our duty? I say it is to always protect our privacy and freedom, because without those we are just another brick in the wall.

Jacqueline Jean Flynn I don’t know who “nobody” is so I could care less.

Robert Guinasso I can care less. Just keep us safe. By any means necessary!

Tina Romero That’s what I say Irma! I don’t care if you’re listening. What’s the worst you’ll hear from me? That I’m broke! LOL! Now if you say my mom is listening….then I’m completely against it LOL!

Joanne Evars No he was screaming when Bush did it

Jacob Lozano It’s a slippery slope that may lead to more civil liberties being lost. When liberties that u do care about are taken it may be too late. We have rights that are slowly being taken away. If they were taken all at once there would be instant revolt. Did u know that acts have been passed that can allow u to be detained for life without trial- see national defense authorization act. Did u know if u have a liberty type bumper sticker that is a “terrorist indicator” see the SLATT anti-terrorist manual……..slippery slope.

I would imagine most people don’t even know what the NDAA (National Defense Authorization Act) is — this gives Obama the right to be judge, jury and executioner to kill American citizens anywhere, even on US soil.

One reader comments, “If you have nothing to hide, what is the problem?” Plenty — we are losing our civil liberties and privacy, which is what this country was built on and what makes us the people we are. Instead, we are being thrown right and left with “terror, terror, terror” so that we are living on red alert everyday which erodes our health, both mentally and physically.

As for domestic spying, which is what this is, I must quote Benjamin Franklin, “He who gives up freedom for safety deserves neither.”

The government cannot protect us from “terrorists”. But, who they do protect is the top 1% who own 30% of our resources and 10% own over 40% of our resources. So, when and if the crash happens, who are going to suffer?
