SSFPD Media Release: 56 Speeders Issued Citations on Saturday

South San Francisco, CA    February 27, 2016 Submitted by SSFPD SSFPD logo color

On Saturday February 271    traffic officers fanned out across the City looking for speeding drivers. This was another one-day saturation patrol out of more than 12 more to be completed throughout the next eight months in South San Francisco. Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Each saturation patrol consists of specially-trained officers using new state-of-the-art lidar devices to check driver’s speeds. Lidar is a highly-accurate laser device that measures distances down to inches and exact speeds of vehicles. The lidar devices are equipped with special sighting systems that can differentiate between different vehicles, allowing officers to target the fastest vehicle on a roadway and obtain an exact speed reading.

Officers targeted roadways in the City that have high injury or fatality traffic collision rates where speed was the primary cause of the accident. The streets enforced today were Hillside Boulevard and EI Camino Real. During the crackdown on Saturday, officers banded out 56 speeding citations.

Motorists are reminded to drive with caution, obey the speed limit, and drive safely. Remember to “Don’t Speed or You’U be Next “.

thanks to the officers for their work – Hillside has become a virtual raceway, and those of us who live in this area truly appreciate the enforcement efforts!
