SSFPD Media Release:Assault with a Firearm on Officer on Del Monte Avenue/Romney Avenue, SSF

On Sunday, August 30, 2015, at approximately 9:30 a.m., the South San Francisco Police Department’s 9-1-1 center received a call from a South San Francisco resident who reported seeing a middle aged male with a rifle near the intersection of Del Monte Avenue and Romney Avenue. South San Francisco Police responded to the area and located the armed suspect. The first officer on scene contacted the suspect and began giving commands to drop the weapon. The suspect didn’t comply and advanced toward the officer while brandishing the firearm. The officer discharged his weapon, resulting in the subject being shot. The responding officers immediately provided first aid until the paramedic personnel arrived. The suspect was taken to a local hospital for further treatment. The officer involved did not sustain any injuries. The San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office and the South San Francisco Police Department are jointly investigating the incident. The names of the officer and suspect are not being released at this time pending ongoing investigation.
