UPDATE CHP have amended the start time to 10pm Sunday August 30chp logo

US-101 will be closed in Millbrae / Burlingame from Sunday, August 30, 2015 at 9:00 PM until Monday, August 31, 2015 at 4:00 AM for an emergency repair project. (10pm start)

US-101 Southbound will be closed from Millbrae Avenue in Millbrae to Poplar Avenue in San Mateo. US-101 Northbound will be closed from Anza Boulevard to Broadway in Burlingame.

The following alternate routes are recommended:
Northbound: SR-92 W/B to I-280 N/B to I-380 E/B to US-101
Southbound: I-380 W/B to I-280 S/B to SR-92 E/B to US-101
Motorists are advised to avoid using city streets as detours as they may quickly become congested.

On Friday, August 28, 2015 at approximately 9:30 PM, construction equipment working on the Broadway overcrossing replacement project inadvertently struck a high-tension power transmission tower. This collision caused multiple live high-voltage power lines to fall across all lanes of US-101. CHP officers responded to the scene and shut down US-101 in both directions. Due to the live power lines, it took several hours to safely clear the freeway of stranded motorists. PG&E crews responded to the scene, but it was clear that specialized equipment would be necessary to shut down the power lines and clear them from the lanes of traffic. A full freeway closure was in effect from Friday at 9:30 PM until Saturday at approximately 4:30 PM. A second freeway closure is necessary to allow PG&E crews to erect a temporary structure and restring the power lines across the freeway. A third closure may be necessary at a later date to allow crews to transition the lines to a new permanent tower.

Please note that the Broadway overcrossing and the Broadway on and off-ramps will remain closed until Monday to allow PG&E crews to continue their work.
